In another stellar display of his arrogant closed-minded way of doing business Drew Dilkens once again betrays the citizens of this community. Declaring his vote without any research into completely new information that may or may not benefit our city. Regardless of your position on whether the city should sell the asset, why not have the discussion? Even Dilken’s supporters should be unsettled by this irrational act, especially given the lame reasoning to support the position.
“No. 1, council has already provided direction with respect to this asset,” said Dilkens. “
Dilkens and his usual loyal councillors had no trouble revisiting the Huron Lodge caretaker outsourcing to eliminate good paying city jobs. They even met behind closed doors first before debating the issue in council chambers. There was no new information that prompted the second discussion. The matter had been addressed. The double standards and hypocrisy have become a signature of this mayor and council.
There is no good reason not to at least debate an RFP in council chambers. To declare his position like this before the public has heard the proposal poisons and influences the debate. No diplomacy for Mr. Dilkens. Nope, it’s never been part of his repertoire, not as mayor or when he was a councillor. It’s clucking ridiculous! This is not about bringing up the past antics of Dilkens however. It’s about constantly being a closed minded leader who rejects out of hand any idea that isn’t his own.
Dilkens was the lead person in the construction of the WIATC/Adventure Bay which financially has been an epic failure and a burden to the ordinary taxpayer. His track record does not support any increased level of business acumen. Yet he makes the following statement……..
“Also, Dilkens said Boscariol’s group does not have the right experience, since none of them appear to have run a parking garage.”
There is the arrogance. He leads a project that he has no knowledge or experience in and it is failing but he’ll call into question the ability and expertise of two upstanding community business people. How can that not make you angry?
I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating. Politicians at all levels have become comfortable with saying what they need to say to get elected. Paul Borelli a Dilkens lapdog is a shining example of such cynical politics. They don’t feel they answer to the community at any time other than election campaigning. They count on low voter turn-out and incumbent name recognition. Voter apathy is their best friend.
If we don’t come out in large numbers in the October 2018 Municipal Election, expect more of the same. If we elect this same crew again, we deserve what we’ll surely get.
Please write to your councillor and insist we hear what Mark Boscariol and Mark Schincariol have to say.
VOTE IN 2018!
